I’m in the middle of my annual January Oscar frenzy where I try to see as many nominated movies as possible. I’m doing pretty well, but still have a few major contenders left. I thought I’d share my progress by breaking down the nominees into three categories:
- Movies I’ve seen
- Movies I plan to see before Oscar night
- Movies everyone is telling me I should see, and I know they’re probably very good movies, but at the end of the day, all I can muster up for interest when I think about them is a halfhearted “eh.”
I mean, those are the same categories that everyone keeps, right?
Movies I’ve seen
- American Sniper (Best Picture, Best Actor)
- The Grand Budapest Hotel (Best Picture, Best Director)
- The Imitation Game (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director)
- The Judge (Best Supporting Actor)
- Into the Woods (Best Supporting Actress)
Movies I plan to see
- Birdman (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director)
- Boyhood (Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director)
- Selma (Best Picture)
Movies I should see, but… eh
- The Theory of Everything (Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Director)
- Whiplash (Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director)
- Foxcatcher (Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Director)
- Wild (Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress)
- Still Alice (Best Actress)
