For me, writing is a lot like hanging out with my friends. I really, really want to do it and I know I’ll have a great time when I’m in the middle of it, but finding the time with everything else that is going on in life is really difficult. Sometimes, as much as I really want to hang out with my friends, it is also pretty tempting to just stay home and watch TV in my pajamas. So, in honor of procrastination, I bring you:
Top 10 Things I Did This Weekend (Instead of Write):
-
Rearranged all of the furniture in my house. In theory, one reason for rearranging furniture was to bring my desk downstairs and make the writing easier. In reality, I spent approximately three hours organizing a drawer full of post-it notes
-
Dusted off the treadmill and actually put it to use after gorging on my Dad’s homemade Irish bread. (I live in fear that Geraldo will visit my house and offer to remove a wall to take me to work via crane.)
-
Spent several hours re-watching my Man from Uncle video tapes, trying to decide whether it was time to donate them to Goodwill. Spent several more hours contemplating whether Goodwill would take them.
-
Participated in a few hours of craft therapy with my sister and friends. I have no God-given crafting ability, but live in hope that by spending time with talented, creative people it will rub off through osmosis. No luck yet.
-
Actually, that’s a lie. I can knit. I went to the store with my Mom where I bought (camouflage colored!) yarn to make winter hats for my nephews for Christmas.
-
Caught up on the TV shows I DVR’d this week. Spent a great deal of time justifying to myself that Meet the Press cancels out 90210.
-
Added the new Christopher Plummer autobiography to my Christmas list. I hung out in Border’s reading the first 20 pages and absolutely fell in love – the man has done everything, known everyone and weaves a story with an amazing use of language. (Also, he’s Captain von Trapp. It’s not like he needs anything else. )
-
Purchased “Eye of the Tiger” from iTunes. Please see my last blog entry if you need to understand why.
-
Realized that the only clothes remaining in my closet were my 1988 blue taffeta prom gown and an orange turtleneck sweater that makes me look like Velma from Scooby-Doo.
-
Did my laundry.
I’ve seen the blue taffeta in action. (OK, in a picture). It’s awesome.
Three things:
1) TV IS a friend!
2) Camo yarn sounds righteous!
3) Blogging counts as writing!
