I’ve been telling folks my exciting news in dribs and drabs but haven’t yet publicly announced it, so here we go:
My novel, “Next Year I’ll be Perfect” is going to be published.
I can’t begin to describe how it felt to type that last line. That is something I’ve wanted to be able to say for a very long time and falls somewhere on my bucket list between “I was able to finish the crossword puzzle in pen” and “Mrs. George Clooney.”
The amazing people at Booktrope Publishing who are responsible for “Write for the Fight: A Collection of Seasonal Essays” read my book, liked it and we are currently working through the editing process.
So, if you happen to run into me over the next few months and I appear equal parts stunned, sleep deprived and wildly grateful, that’s pretty much the status quo these days.
I heard from Booktrope back in April and we signed the contracts soon after, but on Friday I received the first marked-up draft from my editor, and something about the words “first marked-up draft from my editor” make me think this is real enough to share with everyone.
So, if you like chick lit, know someone who likes chick lit or want to put a smile on the face of someone who writes chick lit, please save a space on your Christmas shopping list. I will be happy to autograph copies, talk at book clubs, wrap the books with a bow and tag, dress up as Santa to deliver them and shovel your walk when I get there.
Not that I’m excited or anything.
Oh my God, Laura! That is so exciting!!! I can’t wait to read your novel. Congratulations!
Thank you so much Heather! I’m so excited myself!

Hi Laura,
I looked for a “contact” option but didn’t find one, so here’s a public question. I’d like to know about your experience with Booktrope. Can you email me at nywalters@me.com so we can dialogue? Thanks so much, and congratulations.
