Assorted Musings

Presidential Debates:  I have successfully avoided watching the three Presidential debates assuming that all the good stuff will show up on Saturday Night Live.  Besides, I still miss Tim Russert.

The Hobbit:  Hard as it is to believe, I’ve never read The Hobbit until now.  Due to my (very healthy and not at all disturbing) obsession with Sherlock’s Martin Freeman, I can’t wait for the movie to come out later this year.  Of course, most of my friends are already on the bandwagon and have been waiting for this movie since they were 12 when they first read of the adventures in Middle Earth.  I may be late to the party, but I am an enthusiastic guest.  I LOVED the book and can’t wait to see how Peter Jackson treats the story and its amazing characters.

My Birthday:  I celebrated a lovely birthday over the weekend!  My sister hosted a fabulous party/mini-book signing and I plan to blog about that in detail when I have some pictures to post.  In the meantime I want to share the present I found sitting on my desk at work this afternoon.  My friend, Ken somehow hunted down the headshot of an actor I was obsessed with back in the late 90’s. (Hmm… do I sense a theme?)  It almost made me want to pull out my Spice Girls and Barenaked Ladies CDs.  Almost.

Argo:  If you haven’t seen this movie yet, you don’t know what you’re missing.  This was one of the most interesting, thrilling, suspenseful and still funny movies I’ve seen in a long time.  The thing I found most fascinating was that I was on the edge of my seat even though EVERYBODY ALREADY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED!  That’s a pretty neat trick, Ben Affleck.  PS – Alan Arkin stole the show.  If he is not nominated for an Oscar for his work on this movie, then clearly Iranian extremists are to blame.
